Rice-IFC provides vast scope for judicious insecticide and fungicide selection and use for management of Rice Insect Pests & Diseases. The app includes insects and diseases of rice of national importance and the insecticides recommended against them based on the approval of Central Insecticide Board and Registration Committee (CIB&RC) of India. To be specific, the app covers 17 insects and nine diseases. In terms of insecticides a total of five and 53 are under the categories of bio insecticides and chemical insecticides, respectively. The chemical and bio fungicides against diseases are 57 and six, respectively. The app guides the selection of control options and aids in calculation of the required quantity of the selected chemical for a desired area of the field. Further the calculations have been built to work out the field dilutions of the chemical at recommended dosage vis a vis the spray volume of water required to cover the crop canopy. Additional information on the waiting period and the description on the method of applications based on chemical formulations have been spelt out concisely.
Features of ‘More info’ provides details on source and contact information besides ‘demo’ on “how to use it”. ‘Feedback’ button allows users to interact with developers of IFCs through inbuilt email address when in ‘online’. The app is updated regularly as and when the addition or removal of chemicals happen or decided by the CIB &RC. Current version of applications is English and Marathi would make it more user friendly
The target users of the Rice IFCs could be Rice Researchers, extension personnel and farmers involved in rice growing. The app when promoted to be used by the pesticide dealers would avoid sale of non-recommended insecticides on the rice crop.
